Bennett impressed with trip to Laramie
A visit to Laramie last week month netted Lakewood (Colo.) offensive lineman Jake Bennett some time to get to know the University of Wyoming football program as well as a scholarship offer to play for the Pokes.
The 6-foot-3, 275-pound offensive lineman from Bear Creek High School said Wyoming's Offensive Coordinator Gregg Brandon offered the scholarship. It was his second offer - the first coming from Colorado State.
"It feels good to know someone thinks that much about you that they offered me this early," Bennett said. "I was grateful. Just told them thanks and that Wyoming is definitely in my top three right now."
Bennett said the entire trip to Laramie went well. He said he arrived about an hour prior to practice and saw the UW facilities, the campus and found time to meet with most of the coaching staff.
"It seemed like it was a good college town," Bennett said. "They had everything pretty much in the one little campus square. I think my major is going to be either sports marketing or wildlife biology. It seems like they have pretty good programs and if I was interested in wildlife, it seems like they have one of the best schools for that."
The scrimmage/practice was also something Bennett enjoyed, saying he is likely to come back to Laramie for the Spring Scrimmage on April 21.
"It was sweet," he said of his time at War Memorial Stadium. "I got to watch some football and all that. They had a good practice that day and scrimmaged. They had some good stuff going on there. It seemed like the coaches were straight shooters and not there to mess with you at all. The offense seemed pretty good."
As for now, Bennett said he is interested in wrapping up his recruitment by the start of his high school football season. Today, he was on his way to Boulder to meet with the Colorado staff and see where he stood with them. He also plans to attend a Junior Day at Arizona State on April 14 and may attend a summer camp at Nebraska and another at Colorado.
